The School has an online request system for all absences (work related or annual leave).   

All academic staff have an annual entitlement of 36 days.  The University closes over the Christmas break; there are 4 public holidays plus you must keep 4 days of your annual entitlement.

All sick leave must be notified to Chris Jowett or Karen Downie on the first day of absence.  Remember to notify your return to work as well.

Within a month of starting at the University, you will receive an email notification from HR advising you about Employee Self Serve. Self Serve is an application whereby staff can update and manage their personal details, such as home address and emergency contacts, with the University.

If your home address has changed you must notify the University to update your records. Go to and login. Click on the "My Stuff" tab. You will be able to see the information currently held by the University. Click on "Launch Self Serve" which will open a new brower and prompt you to log in.


There are various benefits available to University staff: Staff discounts; Childcare vouchers; Bicycles plus; Centre for Sport and Exercise; Credit Union and Pension schemes.
