Waste and Recycling

Recycling

There are a number of waste and recycling bins in the School.  A list of locations can be found on the School's Sustainability notice board (53 corridor) and on this leaflet.

The recycling system consists of 3 streams.

  • Dry Recycling (orange lidded bin)
  • Paper (blue lidded bins)
  • General Waste (black lidded bins)

WARPit

The University has an online resource exchange poratal - WARPit.  This allows staff to exchange unwanted items within the University. Staff can create an account or contact the Sustainability team for advertising items.

WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), Battery & Glass Recycling

The European Union introduced the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive in order to ensure that electrical products are recycled when they are disposed of, to encourage resource re-use and to reduce the level of potentially harmful substances entering landfill as waste.

  • In the School, you can recycle batteries (including laptop batteries) in the recycling box in the common room kitchen
  • Glass can be handed in to Marieke in Room 5319 for recycling
  • Maths IT Support will arrange for the collection of other WEEE items owned by the School when they are removed

The School is only able to arrange disposal of equipment owned by the School. To find out how to dispose of personally-owned WEEE items, please contact the City of Edinburgh Council waste services (or your local council, if not Edinburgh)

More information on waste and recycling can be found on the University's Estates department's Recycling webpage.
