Guide for Grant Proposals

Check guidance from the funder

Refer to the grant body’s funding guidance in the first instance.  You must comply with any conditions or regulations issued with the call.  Be aware of any deadline for submission.

Cost your proposal

Contact Jill Douglas who will assist you to prepare accurate figures for your proposal.

Applications for grants with value exceeding £50K should be internally reviewed before you submit

The purpose of internal review is to raise proposal quality and lower failure rates; tap into existing expertise within the School; share best practise with colleagues.  Applications should be reviewed by at least two colleagues, one of whom should not be an expert in your field.  You can choose your internal reviewers or ask the Director of Research for suggestions.  Remember to include time for internal review in advance of grant deadlines.

Submission systems

Research Council applications are submitted via JeS.  On submission, applications are initially sent to ERI before being submitted to Council.

EU applications are submitted via the Participant Portal.  Applications can be resubmitted as often as you wish until the deadline.

Further advice

Advice and examples of successful applications can be found on the ERI webpage ‘How to make a successful application’.

EPSRC provide examples of National Importance Statements.

Successful applications from within the School of Maths can be accessed by contacting Jill Douglas.
