Research Publications Policy

The University’s Research Publications Policy became a formal requirement in January 2010 and requires researchers to deposit their research outputs in the University’s publications repository, PURE, and, where possible, to make all research outputs available as open access, in order to maximise the visibility of the University’s research.

Copyright for researchers

Retaining your copyright is important to both you and the University.  If you wish to retain the right to post your articles online we recommend that you use the University of Edinburgh Copyright Agreement Amendment.  This contains a paragraph which states that the publisher is being granted by you a non-exclusive licence to publish your article

Edinburgh Copyright Agreement Amendment (pdf)

The RoMEO project provides a searchable database of publisher’s copyright and self-archiving policies for pre-prints and post-prints.  Use RoMEO to find out if your publishers’ copyright rules allow you to deposit in PURE.

How to acknowledge research funders in journal publications

The acknowledgement of funding should take the form of a sentence with the funding agency written out in full, followed by the grant number in square brackets, for example: This work was supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council [grant number XXXX].
