UG Projects and Dissertations

This page provides information on projects and dissertations taken in the fourth or fifth year of our undergraduate programmes.

Please see Honours Projects in the School of Mathematics, which is a comprehensive guide to projects and dissertations.

Scheduling and deadlines

  • Initial meeting with supervisor: between 18th September and 29th September 2017.
  • Project report submission:  12:00pm (noon) Friday 9th March 2018.
  • Project talks: 3:10PM-6:00PM Tuesday 27th of March 2018 and 11:10AM-6:00PM Wednesday 28th March 2018.

Types of projects

Group Project: taken by 2-4 students working as a team, a single report is produced, a single presentation is given.

Individual Project: is worked on individually with limited number of available topics.

This is compulsory for MMath students in their final year and is not available for MMath students in year 4.

The credit level is 11. A high standard of mathematical presentation and reasoning is required to gain a good grade.

Students on combined degrees normally have to take this, or an equivalent 40-point project/dissertation in the other School.

Applied Mathematics students must do such Double project in an agreed area of Applied Mathematics.

Mathematics and Physics students may take the 20 point individual project as an alternative.

Project allocations

Project allocations for 2017-2018 can be found here and here

All proposed projects for 2017-2018 (and their acronyms) can be found here

Projects proposed for 2018-2019 will be available on Friday 2nd March 2018.

Mathematical Education

As an alternative to (or as an addition to) projects, students can get enrolled into Mathematical Education.

Please carefully check this option at the description of your degree.
